Sing, Sing a Song, Sing Out Loud,
Sing Out Strong...
Did you ever get
"into" singing a
song with friends?
You know, you're
driving along on a road trip, a
great song comes on, and you and your friends
spontaneously belt it out. Then, as the song winds
down, you joke, laugh, or talk. Somehow it seems
like you're better friends after singing together.
You know what's
amazing about singing compared to
talking? When you and your spouse talk, you can't
do it at the same time or you'll interrupt each
other.
But singing is just
the opposite. When two people
sing, the whole point is to do it together. The
idea is to be in sync with each other.
Talking at the same
time creates conflict. Singing
at the same time creates harmony.
Ever been to a rock
concert? The band plays the first
few notes of its most popular song, everyone
screams, flicks their lighter, and starts singing
along. It feels like you're best friends with
30,000 people, doesn't it?
Something special
happens when people sing
together. When two people join their voices; it
unites their hearts.
Well, by now you can
guess this week's assignment.
It may seem a bit silly, but silly is good for
your marriage. So here's what I want you to do.
Pick a song to sing
together. Pick one you really
like and can get into. If you have it on CD, then
play it while you sing along together. If not, go
online, print out the lyrics of a song, and do a
home performance. If you're really bold, invite
your kids to listen. If you're not feeling bold at
all, have a drink first.
I know you; you're
thinking you'll
pass on this one. Too awkward, right? Don't do it.
Don't skip this one.
You're right, it'll
be weird at first, but I
PROMISE YOU you'll get past that and you'll have
fun with it. Like I said, silly is good for your
marriage. Be silly for 3 minutes.
Sing a song with your spouse.
