Save a Marriage
Memories
Are
you ready for your marriage? Come on...let's do it!
Do
you remember the song "Memories" from the movie
"The Way We Were" with Robert Redford and Barbra
Streisand?
Memories and love
really do go hand-in-hand.
Because when you REMEMBER things about your
relationship, it says to your spouse, "You're
important to me."
Do you remember
buying your alarm clock? Probably
not. Because it wasn't an important event in your
life.
Do you remember your
wedding day? Of course you
do.
So you see, NORMALLY
the little things we forget
and the important things we remember.
Now what if I
remembered what color shirt you were
wearing when we met 5 years ago. That's a little
thing, but if I remembered it you'd feel like a
million bucks.
How do you feel when
someone you met only once
many months ago remembers your name? "Wow!" Right?
How would you feel if
your spouse forgot your
birthday? "Oh no! You got to be kidding me."
Bottom
line is this: it's human nature to remember what's
important
to you. So the SMALLER the thing you remember
about
your marriage, the BIGGER impact you'll have on your
spouse.
This week's
assignment is as follows: Start saving
mementos of your life together. Create a "Memories
Box." And don't just save from the big events;
include the little ones too. Here are just some of
the things you might save:
- movie stubs
- restaurant receipts
- labels from wine bottles
- maps from road trips
- plane tickets
- programs from shows, concerts, or graduations
- Hallmark cards from past occasions
- Special photos
- Newspapers dated your spouse's birthday
- Carnival stubs
Keep filling that
"Memories Box" and then every
once in while give a collage, a scrapbook, or a
decorative memory box to your spouse. And if you
want to shed some tears together, put on the song
"Memories" before you present your gift.
Keep up the good
work!
